Laura Castillo
Project Associate
Laura Castillo's duties as a project associate at DSO include canvassing, community organizing, meeting facilitation, event planning, and one-on-one meetings with key constituents, stakeholders, business leaders and local elected officials
Ms. Castillo's DSO projects have included:
- Campaign School-Election Strategies, Legalities, Methods; City of Los Angeles
- Clean Truck Program, ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles
- Great West Retirement Services, City of Los Angeles
- Our California Latino Voter Guide, various California cities and counties
- Pasadena Unified School District, Excellent Middle School Reform Project
- Pier Pass, ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles
- PLS Financial, various Southern California cities
- Santa Susana Field Laboratory Clean Up, Simi Valley
- Solid Waste Integrated Resource Plan (SWIRP), Bureau of Sanitation, City of Los Angeles
Prior to joining the DSO team, Ms. Castillo first interned at the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, working for the L.A. trade and legislative affairs departments. She began volunteering for several local political campaigns in the cities of Long Beach and Los Angeles. Her work continued as an executive assistant for the Port of Los Angeles harbor commissioner.
Ms. Castillo worked as an independent consultant on numerous community and real estate development projects, handling the day-to-day preconstruction filing process and overseeing the project entitlement process. In addition, she lobbied for existing and potential development projects. Ms. Castillo coordinated various fundraisers for non-profits, organizations that have minority-based programs, for key members of the League of California Cities and for local and state-wide government officials and candidates.
A native of Sacramento, Ms. Castillo attended California State University, Long Beach, majoring in international business and marketing. She is currently a resident of Downey. Ms. Castillo is fluent in both Spanish and English. She has been with DSO since 2007.
